Passo da Ilha

Surrounded by rivers, grasslands and areas of native vegetation, the site reveals how water continuously acts to transform the landscape.
Over time, the watercourses have sculpted the relief, created areas of sediment deposition and favored the development of different habitats. This environmental diversity contributes to the presence of countless species of plants, birds, mammals and amphibians.
Besides its scenic beauty, Passo da Ilha plays an important role in the ecological connectivity of the park, functioning as a link between different natural environments.
The site also holds historical relevance for having been used as a crossing point for cattle drovers (tropeiros) during the trade cycles that connected southern Brazil to other regions of the country.
